Don\u2019t turn it into my words.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It hadn\u2019t sounded like refusal.<br>Not entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time, he had felt that silence and hiding were not always the same thing.<br>But that hadn\u2019t made the need to know disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If anything, it had done the opposite.<br>The less something was spoken, the more he wanted to see its shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the far end of the hallway, standing quietly in the morning light, was the shelf.<br>An old wooden shelf that had always been there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its corners had worn soft with time, and the metal handle had taken on the color of years. He had seen it countless times since childhood, yet had almost never thought to stop in front of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, he couldn\u2019t seem to walk past it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bar\u0131\u015f moved closer.<br>The floorboard gave a faint creak.<br>In this house, even a small sound seemed too loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he stood in front of the shelf, he caught the smell of wood.<br>Dry. Maybe some papers. It\u2019s creepy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWhat face?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe kind that looks like it won\u2019t be able to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>For a second, Bar\u0131\u015f forgot to breathe.<br>His mother had said something close to that the night before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were things you couldn\u2019t return from.<br>She hadn\u2019t said it outright, but something like it had been there, behind her silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deniz said nothing more. faced.<br>But when only fragments remained, people poured their own imagination into the empty spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emine said nothing more.<br>And Bar\u0131\u015f, in the end, couldn\u2019t bring
