The voices of tourists he had heard just moments ago were gone now, faded into distance. Only the wind remained, slipping through hollowed rock, leaving behind a thin, worn sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dog was ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standing still in the darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It wasn\u2019t far. Not close enough to reach, but close enough that a short run should have closed the gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s how it looked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the moment he took a step, that sense of distance broke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Close, but far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Far, but still meeting his eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bar\u0131\u015f stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He placed a hand on the stone wall. Carved by hands. Shaped into rooms and narrow paths. Once, someone had slept here. Cooked here. Light entered at an angle.
